Power Management

The Power Management System (PMS) integrated into our protection and control devices ensures efficient and safe power generation and distribution on board vessels. It monitors, controls and optimizes onboard power distribution, regulates load distribution and synchronization of generators with the onboard power system, and adjusts the power generator output to current consumption and load. It ensures that generators on ships operate at optimal efficiency. This can reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The PMS performs key functions such as

  • automatic start and stop of generators
  • synchronization between different power sources and busbars
  • active and reactive load sharing
  • blackout prevention and fast blackout recovery
  • load shedding of non-essential consumers
  • peak shaving (for example using BESS)

Our system is suitable for various generator types, including shaft generators and variable-speed generators.

A vessel’s electrical systems is typically divided into several switchboard sections, which may operate independently or interconnected. The SYMAP® PMS can manage up to 14 independent networks.

All SYMAP®BC, BCG and Y series models include synchronization capabilities alongside comprehensive protection features.

Advanced PMS functionality is included in the following models:

Benefits

  • improved energy balance by reducing energy consumption and lowering energy costs
  • avoiding blackouts by controlling critical loads
  • reducing investment costs
  • protecting generators and other electrical systems by monitoring safe operation
